John Lonergan, Governor of Mountjoy Prison with Alice and Patrick when he visited TRUST recently to present a cheque on behalf of the Prison Service.
JOHN LONERGAN, the Governor of Mountjoy Prison made a special presentation to TRUST, on behalf of the Department of Justice, in recognition of the organisation work with some of the most marginalised people in Irish society.
The cheque was presented by JOHN LONERGAN to ALICE LEAHY in TRUST recently.
Welcoming this contribution ALICE LEAHY said:
“We were delighted to accept this contribution from the Department of Justice from our good friend John, the well respected Governor of Mountjoy Prison. Indeed, it is a serious indictment of Irish society that both of us are so familiar with many of the same people. It is a fact that is not widely known but many of the most marginalised of those who find themselves homeless see prison as a refuge and ensure for example that they are arrested and incarcerated especially over the Christmas period.
“It is quite shocking that after several years of unprecedented prosperity in Ireland the prison service is for many the only place they can find a bed.”
