TRUST has elected Joe Dowling chairperson of its board of Trustee. A longstanding member of the board he succeeds the late Professor James McCormick who served for many years until his untimely death recently.

Joe Dowling is a barrister and lecturer in law and criminology at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He is a former Garda Chief Superintendent and served in the Community Relations Section. After qualifying as a barrister he obtained postgraduate diplomas in Social Studies in University College Dublin and Community Work in NUI Maynooth.

Commenting on his election Joe Dowling said:

“I am very honoured to succeed the late and very distinguished Professor James McCormick who was an energetic and fearless defender of those who find themselves outsiders in our society. Despite unprecedented prosperity the challenges facing TRUST today are greater than ever. I look forward to working with Alice Leahy, and our colleagues, in seeking to continue to help as many people as we can, and even more importantly, continue our education and public awareness activities to promote greater understanding of the needs of those who find themselves marginalised in our society.”
