Major Fundraising Event in Fethard, Co. Tipperary, Alice Leahy’s home area raises €8,000 for TRUST. 42 teams participate in Golf Classic for TRUST at Slievenamon Golf Club.

TRUST Director Alice Leahy thanks organisers and all involved for making it such “a tremendous success”. 42 teams took part in the Golf Classic at Slievenamon Golf Club in aid of TRUST and organisers FRANK PURCELL and VINCENT (JASPER) MURPHY presented the proceeds – a cheque for €8,000 – to TRUST Director ALICE LEAHY during the Reception to celebrate the launch of the book Alice edited and compiled WITH TRUST IN PLACE in Dublin’s City Hall on October 14th.

Describing the Golf Classic as “a tremendous success” ALICE LEAHY, who comes from Annsgift, Fethard, Co. Tipperary, described this support as very special because it came from her home place and from all sections of the community.

“We help people everyday from all parts of Ireland and not just from Dublin as the outsiders in rural areas often find their way to our door where everyone is welcomed. This support from my home place means a great deal and I very much appreciate the enormous time and effort put in by organisers Frank Purcell and Jasper Murphy and the generosity of all who supported it. Your generosity will go to help outsiders some of whom come from places very close to places we all call home,” ALICE LEAHY said.

FRANK PURCELL one of the organisers offered special thanks to Slievenamon Golf Club Captain Des Delahunty and Club Secretary Brendan Kenny for their generous support as well as RTE Sports Presenter Peter Collins who presented the prizes and help make the event such a success. He also thanked everyone who participated and said that they intended to make it an annual event given the outstanding response they had received.

“We were very impressed by Alice’s work for the outsider and the difference she and her colleagues at TRUST are making for those who find themselves on the outside of society,” FRANK PURCELL said.

FRANK also congratulated his co-organiser JASPER MURPHY, McCarthy Bar (Hotel) in Fethard for his contribution which appears in the book edited and compiled by ALICE LEAHY – With Trust in Place – writing from the outside which was also launched in Dublin last week by RTE’s Pat Kenny. The book also features contributions from Maeve Binchy, Christy Moore, Justice Michael Moriarty, Con Houlihan, Gerard Byrne (Malachy from Fair City), Anita Reeves and others.
