Sir, – Interesting to note (Olivia Kelly, Home News, August 11th) that Dublin City Council is providing portable toilets at weekends for men only in two city locations. Meanwhile, perfectly good toilet spaces remain locked up in various locations in the city.

Can we now expect Dublin City Council to reconsider a detailed proposal for public showers, including architect’s plans made by Trust in July 2006 and reported in great detail by Carl O’Brien (Home News, March 31st, 2008)?

The proposal, which can be seen on Trust website trust-ireland.ie was sent to city councillors and discussed at management level in Dublin City Council. The need for public showers in the city still exists. Incidentally women also urinate! – Yours, etc,
